How to spot a fake gold EA

Short answer: A fake gold EA usually fails one of six simple checks. The signal link points somewhere else, the platform does not match, the live record is only weeks old, the backtest and live drawdown disagree, the scarcity is staged, or the file comes from a crack or a group download. Each check is quick, and you can run all of them before you pay.

This guide is about dishonest selling. To read a tracker properly, start with how to verify a gold EA track record. For why honest systems still struggle on a real account, read why gold EAs fail live.

What counts as a "fake" gold EA?

A fake gold EA is one where what you are shown is not what you buy. That can mean a misleading record, recycled or cracked code sold as new, or a live signal that belongs to a different system. The code may run. The problem is that the evidence behind it does not describe the product on sale.

Most fakes are not clever. They count on buyers seeing a nice chart and stopping there. The checks below are about the links between the claim and the product, not about the chart's shape.

Click every link to a live signal or tracker and confirm it shows the same EA, by the same seller, on the same symbol. A common trick is a link that leads to another product, a different account, or a page that has been removed. If the proof cannot be opened, treat it as missing.

Look at the account name, the symbol traded and the start date. If the sales page says gold and the account mostly trades currency pairs, the record is not about this EA. If the seller says the link is "temporarily down", wait until it is back before you spend anything.

Does the platform match?

Check that the live record runs on the same platform as the file you would buy. A signal running on MetaTrader 4 tells you little about an EA sold for MetaTrader 5, because the code, the broker setup and the order handling can all differ. Same platform, same symbol, same logic is the minimum.

Ask the seller directly which file produced the live account. A clear answer is a good sign. A vague one, or "the logic is the same", means you are being asked to trust rather than check.

How old is the live record?

Look for when the live account started. A record of a few weeks proves very little, because nearly any system can look good in a short, friendly stretch of the market. The longer the record and the more varied the conditions it has traded through, the more it can tell you.

Be wary when a seller has a long backtest and a very short live history. Also watch for accounts that are reset or replaced. If older accounts by the same seller have disappeared, ask what happened to them.

Do the backtest and live drawdown agree?

Compare the worst drop in the backtest with the worst drop on the live account. A small backtest drawdown next to a much bigger live one is a warning sign. It often means the backtest was tuned to past prices, or that costs and real fills were left out.

Some gap between test and live is normal. Spreads widen, orders fill late and markets change. What matters is size and honesty: a seller who shows both numbers side by side and explains the difference is acting very differently from one who only shows the backtest.

Is the scarcity real?

Treat "only a few copies left" and a price that rises with every sale as sales pressure, not evidence. A digital file does not run out. Limited-copy claims are designed to make you buy before you check, which is the opposite of what a careful buyer should do.

There can be honest reasons to cap sales, but they should be explained in plain terms. If the countdown resets when you reload the page, you have your answer.

Where did you get the file?

Buy only from the seller or the marketplace that lists the product. Files passed around in Telegram groups or sold as "cracked" versions come with no updates, may carry malware, and leave you with no seller to hold accountable. An EA has access to your trading account, so its source matters.

A cracked file also cuts you off from the evidence. You cannot match a downloaded copy to any live record, because you do not know which version you have or who changed it.

  1. Does the signal link actually point to this product?Same EA, same seller, same symbol.
  2. Does the platform match? The same platform as the file you would buy.
  3. How old is the live record?A few weeks proves very little.
  4. Do the backtest and live drawdown agree?A much bigger live fall is a warning sign.
  5. Is the scarcity real?A digital file does not run out.
  6. Where did you get the file?Only from the seller or the marketplace that lists it.

A one-minute checklist

If an EA fails any one of these, stop and ask questions before you pay. If it fails two, walk away.
