Which broker for running an EA on MT5? What to check first

Short answer: An EA is only as good as the account it runs on. Before you attach one, check that the broker offers MetaTrader 5 with the right account type, that the cost per trade fits the way the EA trades, that the symbol name matches, and that you have a VPS close to the broker's server. Then test on a demo account at the same broker.

1. MetaTrader 5 and the account type

Confirm the broker offers MT5 and not only MT4, and that the account type allows what your EA does. Grids and hedgers need a hedging account. Check this in the account settings or ask support in writing.

2. The cost per trade

An EA that trades often pays the spread and commission each time, so a small difference adds up. Compare the all-in cost on the symbol you trade, at the hours the EA trades. See gold spread explained and swap and overnight fees.

3. The symbol name

Brokers name the same instrument differently, for example XAUUSD, XAUUSDm or GOLD. Set the EA to the exact name in your Market Watch, or it will do nothing.

4. Execution and slippage

An EA that needs a precise entry suffers when orders fill late. Look at the fills in a demo account, especially around news. Slippage is part of the real cost, and a backtest rarely shows it.

5. A VPS near the server

An EA trades only while the platform is running. A home computer that sleeps or drops its connection misses trades. A VPS close to the broker's server keeps the platform on and the delay short. The full steps are in how to run an EA on MT5.

6. Limits you control

Set the loss per trade, the loss per day and the hours, and check the broker's margin and stop-out rules so a bad run cannot close everything. See margin and leverage.

7. Test before real money

Test the EA in the Strategy Tester with costs, then run it on a demo account at the same broker for weeks. Our guides on backtesting in MT5 and how to choose an AI trading bot go through the checks.

Where Baroq fits

Baroq sells software, not a ready-made robot, and it does not manage money. Its partner broker page for EAs, linked in the box below, compares the brokers we work with, and Baroq may earn a commission from them at no extra cost to you. Our AI agents trade demo money only, and live trading is coming soon.

The Monthly Pass and the Lifetime Pass are software licences for your own MetaTrader account. They score every robot and strategy you run the same way, with costs inside every number. See the plans.

FAQ

What should I look for in a broker for running an EA?

MetaTrader 5, a hedging account if your EA holds opposite trades, stable execution, a cost per trade you can live with, the exact symbol name your EA expects, and a VPS close to the broker's server.

Does the broker change how an EA performs?

Yes. The same EA can give different results on different brokers because spreads, commission, swap, slippage and execution speed differ. Test it on the account type you will actually use.

Do I need a VPS to run an EA?

An EA only trades while the platform is running. A computer that sleeps or loses its connection misses trades, so most people run the platform on a VPS, ideally close to the broker's server.

What is a hedging account and does my EA need one?

A hedging account lets you hold buy and sell positions on the same symbol at once. Some EAs, such as grids and hedgers, need it. Netting accounts merge positions, which can break those EAs.

Should I test an EA on a demo account first?

Always. Run it on a demo account at the same broker for weeks, through different market conditions, before you risk real money.

Is there a free way to use a partner broker with Baroq?

Baroq has partner broker pages, and Free VIP access comes via a partner broker. Baroq is an independent partner and may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It is not available to US residents or citizens.
