The full numbers
Descriptive, not a forecast: where a price stood against its averages in the past says nothing certain about the next day.
How to read it
- A moving average is the average of the last 50 or 200 daily closes. It moves a little each day and smooths out the daily swings: the 50-day follows the price closely, the 200-day slowly.
- From the average is how far the last close is above (+) or below (−) it, as a share of the average.
- Days in a row counts the closes in a row on the same side of the 200-day average, ending with the last one.
- A cross is a day when the 50-day average moves from one side of the 200-day to the other. The price at the cross is that day's close.
- Days above the 200-day is the share of each year's closes that were above the 200-day average. The first 200 days of the prices have no average, so they are left out.
- Where a price stands against its averages describes the past and forecasts nothing: prices cross their averages often and move on in either direction.
