A breakout AI agent for the S&P 500
What an agent with a breakout style does on the S&P 500, the limits it trades inside, and where it struggles. Build the same agent free and watch every trade on paper money, with live prices.
How it trades
It waits for price to close above the high of the last 20 candles (it buys) or below their low (it sells), and goes with the break.
Its mix of the four building blocks, the same as the replay on the Baroq front page, on one-hour candles:
- Breakout 60%
- Trend 20%
- Momentum 20%
You can change the weights with sliders, or describe the agent in one sentence and let Baroq set them.
The limits it trades inside
An agent cannot be saved without them. These are the starting values; you set your own.
- A stop on every trade 2 times the average candle range (ATR) away
- A target 2 times what the trade risks
- Loss limit a trade $100 on the $10,000 paper account (the size is cut to fit)
- Loss limit a day $200: the agent stops for the day
- Trades a day at most 3
It also pauses new trades around big scheduled news, and it pays the spread on every fill.
Where a breakout agent struggles
False breaks. Price often pokes through a level and falls back. A breakout agent pays for those with stops, and earns only if the real breaks run far enough to cover them.
S&P 500: what moves it
The S&P 500 is the index of five hundred large US companies. Company earnings, interest rates and the economy's direction move it.
It is busiest in the New York session; outside it, the index CFD trades thinner. It has risen over the long run but falls fast in a sell-off, so a buy-the-dip style and a trend style behave very differently on it.
Try it before you trust it
Paper money first, always. A free Baroq account runs one agent like this on live prices and writes down the reason for every trade. The Lab then tests variations of it on past candles, picked on one part of the history and checked on the part it never saw.

Other styles on the S&P 500: trend-following · momentum · buy-the-dip.
The same style on other markets: Gold (XAUUSD) · Silver (XAGUSD) · EUR/USD · USD/JPY.
Paper money only: no order reaches a broker. Analysis software, not investment advice. Trading with leverage can lose money quickly, including all of it. A replay or a paper result is not a promise of future results.
